Slowly but Surely

We Are Ashley Davis Designs

Having an Etsy shop is a lot of hard work.
When I first signed up, it seemed easy enough.
I thought I would just add some listings
and hope that people would find them.
I learned how to upload pictures,
to create listings, and to attempt writing descriptions.
I had no clue what treasuries were,
how much advertising/marketing would be required,
or how important SEO is. Each day I learn some new aspect of Etsy.

I'm not sure if I will ever grasp all of the details,
but I'm willing to try. Research and networking are key.
Without creating relationships,
it is very difficult to gain support and/or a following.
Through research, I have attained much of the information I know now.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that any and all support deserves appreciation.
Without support, businesses fail.
Support from friends and family is just as important as support from your clientele.
Most businesses don't take off in a day, and much advertising comes from word of mouth and friend/family support.
Even if your business hasn't taken off, a start is still a start.
My business is coming along slowly but surely,
and each day I remind myself that a start is a start.

Watch Me

We Are Ashley Davis Designs

After learning how to make bracelets,
necklaces, earrings, and rings,
I wanted to try making watches.
I have a nickel allergy,
and I have seen firsthand how hard it is
to find nickel free/hypoallergenic
 watches.

For a while I found multiple watch faces
but none were hypoallergenic.
I continued to search
and found several in a very unlikely spot.

Once I found the watch faces,
I had to learn how to make straps and such.
Experimentation was key for learning
how to properly make good watches.

After making a few that I didn't like,
I took them apart and made new ones.
Several tries later, I made one that I liked.
 I have continued ever since.

Shows & Events

We Are Ashley Davis Designs

One of the best parts of this jewelry journey
is the journeying that comes along with it.
For so long I had heard all about craft fairs and such,
but I had never been to one. I thought they were few and far between,
something that happened a few times a year.
Once I started to make jewelry and to delve into the industry,
I realized just how many craft fairs and events there are.
I had such a rush after my first event.

Being able to see the looks on people's faces
when they find something they like is so fulfilling.
Not only am I happy to make sales,
but I get so excited to see the happiness on each person's face
as he/she finds the perfect gift and/or accessory.
Since the first event, I have continued to travel to craft fairs.
Some are successful some are not,
but regardless of the way things turn out,
I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
If you've never been to one but you've wanted to go to one, definitely take the time to go.
It's worth it.
